Welcome to Bridgend’s page on the Disability Sport wales Website.
My name is Gareth Walters, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Bridgend.
One of Bridgend’s Active Young People Department key priorities is insport Development and insport Club. To date Bridgend County Borough Council has been successful at both Ribbon and Bronze panels and are now looking forward to the challenge of working through the process of the Silver standard criteria.
The Active Young people Department are also supporting community sports clubs through the different level of insport Club which will have a direct impact on the amount of inclusive sporting and physical activity opportunities available to disabled people in Bridgend in a safe and enjoyable environment.
We are currently working with many key partners such as schools (mainstream and SEN), colleges, day Services, Halo Leisure, parents forums, sports clubs and impairment specific organisations through consultations, and the identification of opportunities that need to be developed, all to ensure that quality provision based around the needs of the participants.
We also offer opportunities for coaches and volunteers to be up skilled through attending a UK Disability Inclusive Training Course or alternatively Sainsbury’s Active Kids For All course for teachers and support staff. The course focuses on how to adapt activities to ensure they are inclusive for a wide range of disabilities and impairments.
If you would like to get involved with the Disability Sports Programme in Bridgend or feel that your club could have an impact on the lives of disabled people through sport please contact me.
