Amlwch Judo Club was initially part of the Anglesey Judo group which in the 1980’s had 5 clubs on the Island. Now being the only one still in existence we approach our 30th anniversary. The club practices at the leisure centre at Amlwch (LL659TH), each Tuesday (school term time only), from 5:30 – 7:45pm.
We have three classes ranging from 6yrs- seniors and have two regular Black Belt Instructors on the mat at each session.
The club hosts up to three grading’s per annum and 2 internal competitions. We also attend various grading’s and competition nationally to give students experience of contest and integration with different clubs, instructors and most importantly cultures.
Judo suits can be purchased from the club at a discounted fee and mat fees are paid quarterly to the treasurer. Club license which covers your personal insurance is approximately £15 for a junior, £20 for a senior. No direct debit or hidden costs.
Over the last few years we have had several students with disabilities attending the club. Their disabilities range from limiting mobility problems to visual impairments.
In May 2015, a visual impaired student competed in a national competition and won the Gold Medal, which was an incredible personal achievement for him and a huge accolade of the club. Our experience in training with students with disabilities has a proven track record and we can give references to these if required or if anyone has any hesitation on whether judo is suitable for them.
Our style and ethos is about providing a safe learning environment for all whilst giving everyone the opportunity to fulfil their potential, whether they come to get fit, learn a martial art or compete to a national standard. We can cater for all these requirements.
Sports Development Wales have been kind to fund several of our initiatives and we have the support of the community and the leisure centre.
