Disability Sports Wales Development Officer for Monmouthshire
As a child I grew up with disability in my life with my best friend having downs syndrome and my gran having her leg amputated. As I was progressing through the fitness & leisure industry I wanted to give something back, and I was looking at setting up a disability fitness session when I came across my local DSWDO and got chatting and within weeks I began coaching disability football in Caldicot. I have since become the DSWDO for Monmouthshire.
I began tutoring since 2012 having successfully completed my PTTLLS Course with Coach wise and Sport Wales. I am currently in the process of completing my PGCE to further develop and refine my tutoring skills.
I became a DSW tutor so that I can pass on my experience and knowledge to others infused to develop and promote disability sport and inclusion and transforming lives through sport.
I love tutoring the UK-DIT especially when you see the coaches and volunteers having that ‘light bulb’ moment when they realise how easy it is to adapt sessions, and engage and include people with disabilities into a sports setting. As they lose that fear of the unknown and realise they have always had the skill in their locker, and now they are free to use it and make an impact for those with disabilities in their local communities.
I love travelling whether it is around the UK in my VW campervan or I am following the Olympic & Paralympic flame to Beijing, London and hopefully Rio and Tokyo.
