COUNTDOWN TO THE PARALYMPICS

Having devoted the past 15 years of his life to volunteering in disability sport, Barrie Stephens was recognised for his efforts at the Welsh Sports Association Hall of Fame Awards evening, where he picked up the Unsung Hero Award at a ceremony at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

More disabled people in Wales are taking part in sport than ever before, figures from Disability Sport Wales (DSW) have revealed. Nearly a year on from London 2012, the rise in participation reflects a trend over the past 10 years which has seen disability sport become one of the most successful community sporting programmes in Wales.

In one of the first major competitions since the London 2012 Paralympic Games, our Welsh Para Table Tennis players put a strong performance over the weekend in the Slovenian Open winning 4 medals.

Rob Davies, Brecon, wins Bronze at the Slovenian Open at his first event since competing for ParalympicsGB at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Alongside Rob in Slovenia is Paralympic Bronze medallists Sara Head (Beddau) and Paul Davies (Bridgend).

NEW PAN Disability Football Club Launched On Saturday April 20th disability football took centre stage at the Welsh Premier fixture between Prestatyn Town FC & TNS FC.

Welsh Paralympic Talent and Development Coach. Wales-wide remit, with office base at the Welsh National Velodrome Salary £25k-£30k per annum (dependent on experience)

Junior Disability Football Team

Trials will take place during June 2013 to form a new Welsh Deaf National Futsal Squad.

The British Gas GBR Disability Swimming Team has been announced for the IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal. Amongst them will be Paralympian Morgyn Peters, originally from Cardiff, and Jack Thomas, Swansea

The third annual Phylp Butler was held at Bryn Meadows Golf Club last Friday. 30 teams to part in the day with all monies raised being donated to Disability Sport Wales. The event which is organised by our Caerphilly Development Officer, Paul Taylor proved once again to be an outstanding success.

The Welsh Football Trust is seeking those with the necessary enthusiasm and commitment to make a difference to the development of football in Wales. The Trust was founded by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) in 1996 to look after the grassroots game and is a registered charity. The head quarters are located at the National Football Development Centre in Newport.

25th - 28th April saw one of the biggest international disability swimming championships, outside of a major championships.
