Wales’ first ever ParaCheer Team have returned from the ICU World Cheer Championships in Orlanda with Gold!!

Held at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney Resort, the World Championships welcomed ParaCheer teams to compete for the very first time. Having only begun recruiting dancers a few months ago, Team Wales Cheer and Dance entered the ParaCheer Freestyle Pom category, where teams of non-disabled and disabled dancers performed together on this world stage.

Although the team had no prior experience of competing inclusively, Team Wales were thrilled to come home proudly wearing the gold medals around their necks. Their trip to Orlando brought with them a number of ‘firsts’ as their victory meant that the Welsh National Anthem was played for the very first time at the World Championships.

Sabrina Mountjoy from Team Wales said “It was truly a magnificent moment. We are of course over joyed and want to share our success with everyone! As a result of our success we have been invited by CheerSport Wales to showcase our routine at the Welsh National Cheerleading Championships on May 21st at the Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff Bay.”
