Phylyp Butler Charity Golf Day raises £5,500 for Disability Sport Wales.

The annual Phylyp Butler Charity Golf Day took place on Friday 28th April 2017.
132 golfers took to the course at Bryn Meadows Golf Club in order to raise money for Disability Sport Wales. The event was a huge success, raising just over £5,000!!

A larger than life character, Phylyp gave more than 100% in everything he did. Despite medical setbacks Phylyp w ent through Newbridge School, attended Usk College for two years and at the age of sixteen became a member of St Johns Ambulance.

Phylyp became a volunteer at Newbridge Leisure Centre alongside Caerphilly Disability Sport Wales development officer, Paul Taylor helping with various activities. In September 2010 Phylyp was taken ill and tragically did not recover after an epileptic seizure on 12th September 2010 at the University of Wales Hospital.

This year was the seventh consecutive year that the Annual Phylyp Butler Charity Golf Day has been run in memory of Phylyp. The event has grown in popularity since it started in 2011. Phyl’s sister Lily who attends every year as part of the organisational team said “this is a very special event and every year we are surprised by the level of support we receive.”

All funds raised for Disability Sport Wales will help to provide Sporting opportunities for children with a disability, purchase specialised equipment and support existing and new clubs across Wales.

John Bills first attended the event as a player seven years ago, however as the event has evolved John has become part of the organisational team. When asked why he chooses to dedicate his free time to this event every year, John said “I just love everything about the event. It’s a great day for the players to enjoy, but it also raises money for such a fantastic organisation. It’s a privilege to be involved!”

Gavin Bolton, Manager at Bryn Meadows said “We love hosting this fantastic event every year; we have seen how it has grown and we are honoured to host the Phylyp Butler Golf Day once again”.

Disability Sport Wales would like to say a huge thank you to Phylyp’s Mum Debbie Butler and family, and Caerphilly's DSW Development Officer Paul Talyor for their continued support. Congratulations on another successful year!
