Volunteers Week: A Special Thank You to Jenny

Jennifer is a very much appreciated volunteer within Disability Sport Wales (DSW), where since 2011 she has acted as a volunteer to the DSW Board as the co-opted legal expert.  In addition to this role she has been involved with fundraising for the charitable aspect of DSW (running the Cardiff Half Marathon), as well as acting as an advocate and champion for disability sport more generally.

After 11 years at Dolmans Solicitors, Jenny has recently become an Associate at Capital Law LLP.  In 2014 she was recognised at the Wales Responsible Business Awards with the ‘Employee Volunteer Award’, using the opportunity to highlight the work of DSW.  More recently Jenny gave up her time to be on the interview panel for the rigorous 2-day process to appoint the new DSW CEO – which highlights not only her dedication to the company, but also the critical role Jenny plays within the DSW team.

Pippa Britton, Chair of DSW, described Jenny as an “extremely valuable member of our board. Jenny’s commitment to our organisation and her willingness to offer her expertise has been instrumental in the development of the governing body.”

Jon Morgan, Executive Director of DSW, said “Jenny devotes so much of her time and effort to DSW, we are extremely grateful. Without volunteers like Jenny, our organisation would not have made the positive strides it has made in recent years. Thank you to Jenny and to all of our volunteers who continue to do a brilliant job!”

Jenny’s experience, knowledge and passion for disability sport, has led to her provision of professional advice to Paralympians (and Olympians), and most notably supporting the set-up of the David Weir Academy which supports young disabled athletes to achieve their potential.

It is easy to forget that most of the roles within sport in Wales rely heavily on volunteers – and without the commitment, drive, and enthusiasm of people like Jenny, sport and physical activity would be in a very different place.

Thank you Jenny for everything you have, and continue to do for (disability) sport in Wales.
