Welsh Athletes Achieve Huge Success at the Typhoo National Junior Athletics Championships

On the 1st and 2nd July, the eagerly anticipated Typhoo National Junior Championships took place in Warwick Athletics Stadium in Coventry. After competing in eight regional qualifiers, 18 Welsh Junior athletes joined over 200 others in the Championships supported by Typhoo.

The Championships proved to be a huge success for Wales, with our young stars producing the most successful results ever; bringing home 36 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals!

Our Welsh coaches have worked tirelessly with our young athletes in order to give them the best chance of bringing home those medals – and that’s just what they did! However without the ongoing support of General Dynamics UK, these opportunities would not be available for our athletes. DSW, our coaches and our athletes would like to say a big thank you to General Dynamics, we really appreciate your support.

Reflecting on the weekend’s success, Nathan Stephens, Disability Sport Wales Talent Officer said: “What an amazing weekend at the Typhoo National Junior Athletic Championships,
Our team of 18 athletes once again did Wales proud, each and every one of them were so professional, competed with pride and sportsmanship, bringing home 36 gold medals and 2 silver, our best medal total ever. It was a great successful weekend but one that would not be made possible without the support of General Dynamics – we are extremely grateful. Another huge thank you goes out to all the coaches, staff and parents who made the weekend run so smoothly. Well done everyone”

Fiona  Reid, CEO of Disability Sport  Wales said: “The team representing Wales at the Junior National Championships this year far exceeded expectation – to bring home 36 gold and 2 silver medals was incredible.  Disability Sport Wales are very proud of them, for all their hard work in the build up to the event and their performances and conduct whilst there.  They were supported by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of coaches and volunteers – and their input is very much appreciated.  The support we receive from General Dynamics is crucial in ensuring Welsh talent is strong, and the future is very bright for these young people – this weekend has proven just that!”

Congratulations to everyone involved in such a successful weekend – we are all very proud!
