Jacob Thomas takes Silver at Boccia Masters International

11 June 2012

jacob thomasAs the final preparations are taking place for the GB Boccia squad members ahead of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the Boccia Masters International event in Portugal saw some of the World’s best team competing for one of the last times before London.

Youngster Jacob Thomas, from Narberth in Pembrokeshire, will be competing at his first Paralympic Games, and his meteoric rise within the sport, has seen him climb the rankings in the BC3 classification (for players who uses a ramp).

Thomas, part of the GB Pair team initially had a disappointment at the event, not making it through the Group stages losing to a strong Portugal and Russian Pair. However he showed his class in the individual event, going through to the final, beating his GB team-mate, Scott McCowan in the semi-final, but losing out on the Gold to Portugal’s Macedo.

The GB team moves onto another event later this month, the Cheshire International Open in Wigan, which will see them again taking on some of the best players in the World. In this event Wales will be represented by a strong team, hoping to put their mark on some of the other teams.
