Sainsbury's Active Kids for All (Inclusive Physical Education)

About Sainsbury's AK4A (IPE)

Despite the slightly different title, this Sainsbury’s-sponsored workshop is part of the UK Disability Inclusion Training project.  The suite of products has been a landmark – the first of its kind within disability sport, and indicates a significant change in the working practices of the Home Nations Disability Sport Organisations (HNDSO) of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England.  Historically the provision of disability inclusion training has been delivered by each individual HNDSO, and by a range of external providers within each of the four Nations.  There are now 5 versions of the UK DIT workshop, of which the Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All version is one.  The content of the workshop is tailored to an education environment, and is delivered on a local basis to reflect the PE curriculum.

The overall aim of this workshop is to ensure that disabled children and young people get great quality physical education, whether within curricular or extra-curricular sessions.  This six hour session combines theory with a practical application of how to deliver, or support the delivery of inclusive sessions so as to provide meaningful opportunity for all the children/young people within the class.

Within the workshop you will cover:

•  The influence of Perceptions and Experiences

•  Techniques for good practice within the PE environment

•  Challenges to and solutions for participation within curricular and extra-curricular activity

•  Key points around SEN legislation

•  The disability sport pathway  and classification

•  Where to go for further help and guidance

•  Application of this to a practical environment

This workshop is aimed at everyone who works within an education environment and has a role to play in the delivery of Physical Education.  If you want further information about this workshop and how to run it then either contact DSW or your local sport development team.
