Welcome to the Torfaen County Borough Council page on the Disability Sport Wales Website.
My name is Holly Hinchey, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Torfaen. I am based at Civic Offices, Pontypool.
Within Torfaen we have a variety of sport and physical acivity clubs offering provisions in a wide range of sports for people with a disablitly. Ranging from Boccia, Athletics, Swimming, Archery, Shooting, Skiing, Bowls, Carriage driving, Tennis and gymnastics to name but a few.
We are very lucky in Torfaen to have a number of new projects in the pipeline, the most recent being a brand new watersports centre at Llandegfedd Reservoir.
Gwent Adventrues a local club based at the centre received a grant from Sport Wales to purchase an accessible floating pontoon and a number of accessible boats to develop a new dissbled watersports programme which will enage participants with a variety of disabilities.
The new sailing and watersports session will be up and running when the centre opens in the autumn.
If you are a coach or volunteer there is also the UK Disability Inclusion Training Course (UK DIT) which is currently available in Wales, courses run several times over the year so please contact me for upcoming dates.
In order to help support clubs deliver good quality sessions Disability Sport Wales have introduced insport. insport is a four tiered (Ribbon, Bronze, Silver and Gold) identification and accreditation process which any sports club can go through to show they are committed to providing and delivering inclusive sport. If you are a mainstream club providing inclusive sport already or would like to please contact me. Look out for the insport logo that highlights some of the most inclusive sports clubs across Wales.
I update the website on a monthly basis with news, events and up and coming courses so please check regularly!
