Past and present sporting greats, community ambassadors and Welsh celebrities are among the 130+ outstanding individuals who will carry the Queen's Baton when it comes to Wales next week.

Selected for their community contribution and achievement in the world of sport, education, arts & culture, the Welsh batonbearers will be taking part in a four day tour of Wales.

Batonbearers were nominated locally, and the final selection was made by Commonwealth Games Wales.

Commonwealth Games Wales Chair, Helen Phillips said: "It's a great honour to be chosen as a batonbearer, and everyone who's been selected should feel extremely proud.

"All of those carrying the Baton in Wales are exceptional individuals who promote community life and inspire others to achieve in all kinds of fields.

"Our batonbearers are of all ages and come from many different backgrounds, representing the rich social and cultural diversity that we have as a nation."

She added: "Covering 350 miles of Welsh soil, the route is the largest relay to date in Wales. The baton will be visiting south, mid and north Wales to get the entire nation excited about next year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast."

The Queen's Baton Relay started at Buckingham Palace on 13 March this year, and will be travelling through Wales between 5-8 September.

The Baton will then work its way to Australia via Asia and Oceania in time for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games' opening ceremony on 4 April.
