The UK Disability Inclusion Training project has been a landmark – the first of its kind within disability sport, and indicates a significant change in the working practices of the Home Nations Disability Sport Organisations (HNDSO) of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. Historically the provision of disability inclusion training has been delivered by each individual HNDSO, and by a range of external providers within each of the four Nations. There are now 5 versions of the UK DIT workshop, of which the Leisure Services Personnel version is one. This means that you will get a tailored experience reflecting the diversity of your needs, and identifying and reinforcing good practice within your area of the physical activity, sport and leisure industry.
The overall aim of this workshop is to ensure that disabled people get great quality service and opportunity within your centre or facility. This three hour session focuses on how to get what you do right for disabled people – it will help with everything ranging from inclusive customer service skills, the images and text used on information within or sent out by the centre, signage, programming and the development of policies and procedures to include disabled people.
Within the workshop you will cover:
• The influence of Perceptions and Experiences
• Techniques for good practice when working with (disabled) customers
• Challenges to and solutions for participation within your facility
• Key points around legislation relating to public facility/leisure provision
• Inclusive programming
• Where to go for further help and guidance
This workshop can be delivered flexibly to suit staffing and shift patterns. Please contact DSW for further information or discuss delivery formats.
