Background:
The Federation of Disability Sport Wales (or Disability Sport Wales (DSW)) are the lead organisation in Wales for disability sport and sport for disabled people. We are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We share the vision for sport in Wales (an active nation where everyone can have lifelong enjoyment of sport) and our mission is to:
influence, include, inspire, insport
We do this through the provision of specific programmes (insport programmes, insport Series Events, Performance Development Camps) and services (Education and Training for those involved with physical activity (including sport)) which is intended to support a pathway of choice from initial engagement to performance sport at the highest level.
We are a small team of highly committed, passionate individuals whose shared purpose is to advocate for an inclusive approach within the sector.
DSW Value Statements
You will always be able to expect DSW (as an organisation and individuals within the team) to:
- Champion Everyone - We believe in meaningful opportunity, broad diversity and great achievement. People drive all that we do.
- Proudly Welsh - We embody and celebrate what it is to be Welsh.
- Value Growth - We are committed to development and inclusive change and will always support that.
- Highlight Possibility - We connect opportunities and prioritise partnerships, so people get what they need.
The Opportunity:
The Opportunity:
The role will drive the creation and coordination of LD Active Hwbs across the Mid Wales region, providing meaningful participation and volunteering opportunities for ILS, Foundation, and ALN learners, alumni, and friends. This will include working alongside Active Wellbeing Officers, DSW, Local Authority partners, and the Mid Wales Sport Partnership to map existing provision, identify gaps, and scope new opportunities — drawing on baseline data and learner insight to shape activity that is genuinely inclusive.
The position requires strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills to connect FE and HE learners with volunteering opportunities and inclusive sport events, facilitating lasting links between learners and the wider partner network. Experience of working with young people and those with additional learning needs is essential, as is the ability to organise and deliver education and training programmes that build skills in inclusive volunteering, leadership, and coaching. The postholder will also play a key role in planning transition activities across educational stages, ensuring learners can remain active and engaged beyond their college journey.
The successful applicant will be a key member of a collaborative regional team, working across college campuses and Hwb sites throughout Mid Wales. A person-focused, adaptable, and practically minded candidate who is passionate about inclusive physical activity, comfortable working with a wide variety of stakeholders, and committed to the long-term development of additional needs learners through sport would be well suited to this role. Competence in Welsh or BSL, or a willingness to develop these skills, would be a welcome addition.
This is a key role within the DSW team and reflects the organisation's commitment to establishing effective partnerships that create sustainable, inclusive opportunities for ILS/ALN Learners across mid Wales.
