Finalists for Emerging Athlete of the Year 2024

These promising athletes made their breakthrough in 2023-24. The winner will be the recipient of the Gareth John Bursary to support their progression.

Rebekah Knight
Still new to rowing, after just three years in the sport, Rebekah made her debut for Wales at the Home Nations Regatta in 2023. Beaten on that occasion over the 2km distance Rebekah returned to training for the 2024 season. Her hard work culminated in victory at the 2024 Home Nations Regatta in the PR3 women’s single scull. This result was backed up by victories at the Monmouth Regatta, Llandaff Regatta and by making the final at the Henley Women’s Regatta.

Jac Sheehan
Jac is a multisport athlete, competing in athletics, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball. Recently crowned Welsh Athletics Indoor Championships Senior and U17 champion in the seated shot put, Jac has competed over 20 times in the 23/24 season. Jac also represented Wales at the 2024 National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships and trains and competes regularly in Wheelchair Rugby.

Meghan Willis
Meghan was the youngest member of the Team Wales swimming team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and has now been active in the sport for four years. In 2024 Meghan won 1 Gold, 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals at the British Para-Swimming International Winter Meet and 2 Golds and 2 Silvers at the Citi Para Swimming World Series Limoges, France. Meghan also made multiple finals at the 2024 Aquatics GB Championships which doubled as the Olympic and Paralympic trials.
