Deaf Sport Senior Officer
Disability Sport Wales, in partnership with Wales Deaf Sports, are looking for an organised, solutions-focused, passionate Deaf Sport Senior Officer, with excellent communication skills and a clear understanding of the landscape of Deaf sport and physical activity (including sport) for Deaf and hard of hearing people; and the organisations involved within the landscape. This is an exciting new role which focuses on connecting partners within the sector to establish specific recommendations of the Wales Deaf Sport strategy to enhance the inclusion of Deaf and hard of hearing people in physical activity (including sport) throughout Wales.

Responsibility for:
The building of the foundations for the roll out of the Wales Deaf Sport strategy, with initial focus being on the following objectives:
• 02: Growing opportunities
• 05: Informing our journey, and
• 06: Resourcing our Strategy
Location:
Flexible (blend of home and office location (offices in Cardiff and Deeside)).
Salary:
£ 12,480 pa (£31,200 pro rata)
Hours:
14 hrs/week (part time)
Contract:
12 months fixed term (with a view to extend if resources can be identified). Applications for job share or secondment are welcome and will be considered.
Travel:
There will be some need to travel within Wales where required.

Background:
The Federation of Disability Sport Wales (or Disability Sport Wales (DSW)) are the lead organisation in Wales for disability sport and sport for disabled people. We are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We share the vision for sport in Wales (an active nation where everyone can have lifelong enjoyment of sport) and our mission is to:
influence, include, inspire, insport
We do this through the provision of specific programmes (DSWDO Community programme, insport, Performance Pathway Hubs) and services (Education and Training for those involved with physical activity (including sport)) which is intended to support a pathway of choice from initial engagement to performance sport at the highest level. We are a small team of incredibly committed, passionate individuals whose shared purpose is to advocate for an inclusive approach within the sector.

This role will also be strongly connected to Wales Deaf Sport and it will be essential that there is an understanding of Wales Deaf Sport and their new Strategy.
The Opportunity:
This is an exciting new role which focuses on connecting partners within the sector to establish specific recommendations of the Wales Deaf Sport strategy to enhance the inclusion of Deaf and hard of hearing people in physical activity (including sport) throughout Wales. It will be in close partnership with Wales Deaf Sport and link directly to specific areas of the new WDS Strategy. Whilst this is a post which will work in close partnership with Wales Deaf Sport the role is managed by Disability Sport Wales.
The postholder will work with colleagues from a wide range of organisations all linked through their focus on sport and/or Deaf and hard of hearing communities with a role to play in active recreation, physical activity, and sport. The Wales Deaf Sport strategy is thorough and ambitious, and the right foundations need laying to ensure it achieves its strategic priorities. Some of this role will also include some responsibility for income generation to create sustainability for the post into the future. The role will particularly focus on actions linked to WDS Strategy Objectives 02: Growing opportunities; 05: Informing our journey; and 06: Resourcing our strategy.
A self-directed, collaborative, strategically minded candidate, who can communicate persuasively and openly with a range of current and new partners will thrive within this role. Being familiar with Deaf Sport pathways and opportunities, committed to working with partners to deliver events and with colleagues to produce and co-produce opportunities for Deaf and hard of hearing people is highly important.
Ideally you will have prior experience of working within the disability or Deaf community landscape, be familiar with income generation, able to focus on the delivery of core priorities within a strategy and have some experience of influencing the delivery of events.
