The primary aim of the project was to offer a Mini Disability Inclusion Training workshop to primary
schools on Anglesey. Mini-DIT is a creative inclusive learning programme for primary school pupils aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, it was created by Disability Sport Wales in order to raise the awareness of disability sport, and to demonstrate how disabled friends can be included in the activities pupils take part in during and outside of school. This project targeted year 5 pupils across all 5 catchment areas on Anglesey.
The training includes a session on the perceptions of disabled people in sport, what terminology is correct and appropriate, and what adaptations can be made to improve inclusion. Mini DIT links to the Sport Wales Physical Literacy programme, which states that everyone should have a catalogue of skills, along with confidence and motivation, when it comes to taking part in sport and physical activity. The training aims to support inclusion through the delivery of the following outcomes;
1. Learn more about what disabled children, young people and adults can do
2. Learn how to include your friends in all your PE and play activities.
Young Ambassadors from Cardiff Met University and Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni facilitated the training session at a total of 16 primary schools across Anglesey, with 417 key stage 2 pupils attending.

“The experience was very worthwhile, raising the pupil’s understanding and awareness around different impairments. The tutors were very knowledgeable, gave excellent and relevant information, that was appropriately delivered to the pupils age. The session gave pupils a great understanding of how to include their peers, delivered through fun and engaging activities. We’ve already seen examples of pupils using some of the ideas to include others during break and lunchtime sessions. It would be excellent if this training could be extended to all schools as the opportunity for the pupils is very beneficial”
