Breacon Athletics Initiative

New initiative to encourage participation

An initiative has been launched in Breacon to encourage more children with disabilities to take part in sport.

In conjunction with the Federation of Disability Sport Wales, Powys County Council’s Sports Development Unit is introducing a ten-week course to where children can take part in fun sessions with trained volunteers from Welsh Athletics.

Taking place at Breacon Sports Centre, the sessions are open to all children with disabilities aged between 8-16 years old.

Bev Tucker, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Powys County Council, said: "We are delighted to introduce these sessions which aim to be an introduction to disability sport.

"We already have a number of established disability sports clubs in Powys, and we hope these new taster sessions will provide a natural stepping stone towards these."

The sessions take place every Friday night between 7-8pm from November 9th, costing just £2 per session. For more information contact Beverley Tucker on 01874 612034.

A similar course for North Powys will be launched in the New Year.
