Scotty Turner’s selection coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the sport in the UK.

The Cardiff Huskies sledge hockey team was founded in1996 and is part of the British Sledge Hockey Association (BHSA).

The club has been supported by Cardiff Council’s sport development team, Sport.Cardiff for more than 10 years.

Sledge hockey is for athletes with a lower limb disability and is based on the game of traditional ice hockey.

The size of the rink, rules and penalties are identical with the only difference being the athlete’s technical equipment.

Specially designed sledges are used to propel the athletes across the ice. They also use two playing sticks to push themselves and to control and shoot the puck. sledge ice hockey

Scotty first heard about the Huskies having attended the Wheelchair Sports Spectacular organised by Sport.Cardiff and Disability Sport Wales.

The an event gives children, young people and adults the opportunity to participate in over 20 different sports and is designed to spot those who might have a burgeoning talent or those who simply want to take part in sport and have fun.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: "The Huskies is committed to providing sledge hockey for people of all ages and ability levels.

"Over the years the club has produced an impressive six winter paralympians, a sign of the dedication and enthusiasm for the sport shown by both trainers and participants.

"The Wheelchair Sports Spectacular attracts participants from all over South Wales and the UK and continues to get more disabled people active and involved in sport".

AELOD O HYSGWN CAERDYDD YN CAEL EI DDEWIS AR GYFER SWEDEN

Mae aelod o dîm hoci sled Hysgwn Caerdydd wedi’i ddewis i gynrychioli Prydain Fawr yn y Pencampwriaethau Ewropeaidd a gynhelir yn Sweden fis Chwefror eleni.

Mae Scotty Turner wedi cael ei ddewis 30 mlynedd ar ôl sefydlu'r gamp yn y DU.

Sylfaenwyd tîm hoci sled Hysgwn Caerdydd yn 1996 ac mae’n rhan o Gymdeithas Hoci Sled Prydain.

Mae’r clwb wedi derbyn cefnogaeth gan dîm datblygu chwaraeon Cyngor Caerdydd, Chwaraeon.Caerdydd am dros 10 mlynedd.

Mae hoci sled ar gyfer athletwyr gydag anabledd ar y fraich isaf ac mae'n seiliedig ar y gêm hoci iâ traddodiadol.

Mae maint y llawr sglefrio, y rheolau a'r cosbau union yr un fath, yr unig wahaniaeth yw offer technegol yr athletwr.

Defnyddir slediau arbennig i wthio’r athletwyr ar draws yr iâ.  Maent hefyd yn defnyddio dwy ffon i wthio’u hunain ac i reoli a tharo’r cnap.

Cafodd Scotty wybod am yr Hysgwn ar ôl mynychu’r Digwyddiad Chwaraeon Cadair Olwyn a drefnwyd gan Chwaraeon.Caerdydd a Chwaraeon Anabledd Cymru.

Mae’r digwyddiad yn rhoi’r cyfle i blant, pobl ifanc ac oedolion gymryd rhan mewn 20 o wahanol chwaraeon ac mae wedi’i ddylunio i ganfod y rhai sydd â thalent gynyddol neu’r rhai sydd eisiau cymryd rhan a chael hwyl yn unig.

Dywedodd Aelod Gweithredol Chwaraeon, Hamdden a Diwylliant, y Cynghorydd Nigel Howells: "Mae’r Hysgwn wedi ymrwymo i ddarparu hoci sled i bobl o bob oed a gallu.

"Dros y blynyddoedd mae’r clwb wedi cynhyrchu chwe athletwr paralympaidd o fri, arwydd o ymroddiad a brwdfrydedd yr hyfforddwyr a’r cyfranogwyr dros y gamp.

"Mae’r Digwyddiad Chwaraeon Cadair Olwyn yn denu cyfranogwyr ledled De Cymru a’r DU ac yn parhau i roi cyfle i fwy o bobl anabl gadw'n heini a chymryd rhan mewn chwaraeon".
