On Thursday 17th February the Carmarthenshire Disability Sport Wales gala was held at Llanelli Leisure Centre.

75 swimmers entered the gala in races ranging from 9-100metres.

This year’s gala saw entries form Ysgol Bro Banw,Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn,Ysgol Gyfun Gwendraeth, Ysgol Hendy, Ysgol Nantgaredig, Queen Elizabeth High and Towy Salmon Swimming Club. Ysgol Dewi Sant joined the gala for the first time this year.

Medals were presented by Councilor Dilwyn Thomas from Llanelli Rural Council.

8 swimmers were selected to go forward to the 8th Swansea Stingrays Gala in Penlan Leisure centre were they will compete against selected swimmers from Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire and Swnsea.

Lisa Pudner the Disability Sport Wales Development officer said she was delighted to see an increased entry from previous year’s and congratulated all the swimmers.

Austyn Shortman Aquatics Development Coordinator was also present to speak to teachers about the Learn to Swim programmes throughout the County.

Thanks to Ian Howell from Llanelli Swimming Club who again gave up his time to be the official starter of all the races. Marian Williams for collating all the results. Students from C.C.T.A who helped to organise the gala and time keeping. Phil Bennett and Alun Davies helped to run the event on the day. Also a big thanks to Manhattan Marketing and Tripps Trophies for their partnership work.
