A group of youngsters from the Ty Hafan children’s hospice in Sully have enjoyed the first of what will hopefully become a series of sports sessions organised for them by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Disability Sport Wales Development Officer Simon Jones.
Simon and volunteers from Barry Comprehensive School and Barry College spent a day at Ty Hafan giving eight children the chance to take part in a range of sports including cricket, boccia, kurling and football.
The children had a fantastic time, and Sandra Dumitrescu from Ty Hafan said: "Sport for the children and young people who spend time at Ty Hafan is just as important as it is for any child. To have a session provided for them by a trained Sports Officer for the disabled and his team of volunteers provided a wonderful opportunity for them to enjoy familiar sports as well as try a few new ones.
"We were fortunate to have a fine day at the hospice which meant the grounds could be used for the youngsters of all physical abilities to develop and extend their skills. I would like to thank Simon and his volunteers for a wonderful session which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone."
Simon, who is part of the council’s sports and play development team, said: "The day went really well and I hope that this will be the first of many sports sessions that can be put on at Ty Hafan throughout the year."
