Rebounders Trampolining Club have been awarded the insport club of the month accolade due to the clubs proactive approach and longstanding commitment to inclusive disability sport and which has also resulted in the club achieving insport Gold.

Formed in 2002, Rebounders was established as a trampoline club for any disabled child or adult who were unable to or did not feel comfortable to take part in a mainstream class. The first inclusive class was held in Pontprennau Community Centre for a group of six children with coordination difficulties. Within six weeks a second class was added in Pontprennau and the demand continued to increase with the establishment of further classes in other areas including Fairwater Leisure Centre, Llanishen Leisure Centre, Llanishen High School, Cardiff Central Youth Club and Cyncoed.

In 2008 after being registered as a charity, Rebounders opened its own venue where classes could be held in Ocean Park Cardiff. As numbers continued to grow the club continued to develop their time table and refine the set up. In 2013 as a continuation of the growth of the club, Rebounders started competing on a small scale which led to the formation of an associated club called Twisters. Rebounders is now also providing sessions in Rhondda Cynon Taf where they are looking to open a centre in the near future.

Heather Sargent, Rebounders Head Coach said “Working through the insport standards has helped us consolidate the running of the club. We have reviewed our policies and the roles and qualifications of each staff member. It has helped us ensure the appropriate use of all methods of communication with members, parents and outside organisations”

“It has been beneficial to review the past 14 years to help us focus our plans for the future. It is great to have a benchmark by which the public can recognise the quality of the club and the work that we do to make the club accessible for individuals with disabilities.”

Katy Evans, Welsh Gymnastics said “A huge congratulations to Rebounders for their recognition as a fully inclusive trampoline club. The team work tirelessly to ensure that every individual receives a quality experience in the Rebounders Centre regardless of their disability. Rebounders’ outstanding contribution to disability sport has undoubtedly raised their profile across South Wales.”

Michelle Daltry, Disability Sport Wales Partnership Manager said “Rebounders Trampolining Club is a truly exceptional club that has gone from strength to strength delivering high quality opportunities for disabled children and adults.  The club’s commitment to inclusivity and their desire to support other clubs through mentoring and support is having a huge impact upon how sport and physical activity can be delivered in an inclusive way.  The club, and the coaches and volunteers are truly deserving of this month’s club of the month award, congratulations from Disability Sport Wales.”

Joanna Coates McGrath, Disability Sport Wales Development officer said “Rebounders is a fantastic club offering opportunities for all ages and ability levels. The coaches have a wealth of experience of providing quality coaching for disabled people, and they are shining example of inclusion in sport.”
