We are recruiting to an exciting, managerial role that will be key to the success of a brand new project.

The UK Sports Association for People with Learning Disability (UKSA) is a national charity that promotes, facilitates and supports talented sportspeople with learning disability in the UK to train, compete and excel in national and international sport. We believe that every person with learning disability should have the same opportunities in sport as non-disabled people and our vision is a society that enables people to excel and achieve their full potential in the sport of their choice.

To support this vision, UKSA are pleased to announce the launch of a new project, ‘My Sport, My Voice!’, which has been made possible thanks to a funding award from the Big Lottery Fund under its Spirit of 2012 Trust’s ‘Keeping the Spirit of 2012 Alive’ initiative. The project will involve establishing an Athlete Ambassador programme and implementing a series of Ambassador–led nationwide workshops to engage with the public using a bespoke communication package. The project will help to dispel myths around learning disability and raise awareness around talented athletes by giving them a platform to share their views and challenge perceptions around disability.

Working in a small but busy and friendly office, this manager will really have the chance to make their mark on the organisation and be a positive force in the lives of our Ambassadors.

The Communications/PR Manager is critical to the success of the project and will lead in the provision of information, press office, and publicity for ‘My Sport, My Voice!’. By providing strategic and operational direction for all aspects of communication and PR, you will play a central role in making this project a success. You must be a skilled communicator with experience of working with the media, achieving publicity for clients and leading campaigns as you will shape and deliver the project and lead internal and external communications. As well as dealing with a variety of stakeholders including local business leaders and local and national media, you will be working directly with our athletes to create individual and person-centred PR plans.

Download the recruitment pack from the UKSA website www.uksportsassociation.org or contact us for a copy.

Closing date: Friday 31st January 2014 at 5pm.
