Paralympic champion Aled Davies started his season in world record breaking form at his first meeting of 2014.

Davies competed at the WeirArcher Academy meeting in London and broke a 12-year-old world record for the discus by throwing 48.87m as well as breaking his own shot put world best of 14.87m.

Davies tweeted afterwards: "First comp of the year. Loads of PB’s & WR’s. 14.87m in Shot. 48.87m in disc. So much more to come. Can’t wait to hit speed work. Feels surreal to have broken a World Record that has stood for 12 years! I’d like to thank the team behind me! @sport_wales @BritAthletics.

The Bridgend star has two aims for the season as he looks forward to competing in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and winning two European paralympic golds in Swansea.
