The tournament represents a significant opportunity for both teams to showcase their talent on the international stage, with a place at the Commonwealth Games on the line. With the continued growth of 3x3 wheelchair basketball since missing out on qualification for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Welsh squads head into the competition with confidence and ambition.

Men’s Coach Caroline Mathews MBE expressed optimism ahead of the competition:
“I’m very excited to see the Welsh Men’s team competing next Saturday. The whole squad have really come together and worked so hard to prepare; it made the selection decisions very difficult, but I'm very grateful for everyone's contribution. Now we need to put it all into practice on the court. Bring it on!!”
The players are equally eager to represent their country, with Will Bishop from the men’s team saying:
“It's a huge honour to represent Team Cymru again at the Commonwealth Games qualifiers. I can't wait to get on the court, compete hard, and give everything alongside my teammates – Cymru am byth!!”
Alex Wilson added:
“I am very excited ahead of the qualifiers. We have really come together as a group and I cannot wait to get on court in Nottingham and show people what we can do.”
The European Zonal Qualifier will see Wales face strong opposition from Northern Ireland, England and Cyprus, but both Welsh teams are determined to make their mark and push for qualification.
With the prospect of competing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games driving them forward, Wales will be looking to deliver strong performances throughout the tournament.
