A coached event for visually impaired triathletes riding on tandems

9am – 1pm
Saturday March 28th 2015 – Machynlleth Sport Centre

Cerist Triathlon Club are hosting an open training event to encourage Visually Impaired (VI) athletes to participate in the cycle stage of triathlons when assisted by a guide. The forthcoming Rio Olympic Games in 2016 will feature a para-triathlon and a growth of interest in this sport is anticipated.

This coached event will be suitable Visually Impaired (VI) athletes and their guides as well as those who have yet to pair up. There will be assistance to form team pairs in advance and if a suitable person cannot be found, then the event will allow a rotation of roles.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own tandem wherever possible with some spare tandems vailable for use if booked in advance.
Participants do not need to be a member of any sports club or affiliation.

The coaches will be attending this event voluntarily and costs will be kept to a minimum.
The event is envisaged essentially as an introduction to VI athletes riding a tandem with a guide including the triathlon transitions (T1 and T2).
The event will begin indoors in a sports hall and if weather permits there will be opportunity to move outside onto quiet roads.

After lunch participants may choose to join others on a longer cycle route un-coached.

Level 1 and level 2 club coaches will be present offering training for the event which will run to a planned schedule until lunchtime. We are also hoping to welcome some established para-triathlete teams to share their experiences.

To keep costs low, refreshments are not provided but the venue has a good value café and changing rooms/showers are inclusive.

Participants should be over 18 years, have some athletic ability and bring their own suitable clothing clothes and protective wear.

Whilst the coaches and venue will be covered by their respective insurances, participants will be asked to sign a legal waiver and may wish to have their own insurance for participating in this training event.
