The first day of the Paralympic Games in Rio got off to a quiet start with athletes starting their journey ahead at the Games.

Wheelchair Basketball was the first sport to have Welsh representaton today with Clare Griffiths playing for the Women's team, whilst Phil Pratt competed for the Men's. Mixed results saw the Women lose to Canada, 43 - 36, whilst Phil Pratt gave a strong performance for the Men's who ran out 93 - 31 winners.

Aaron Moores finished 5th in his S14 100m Backstroke heat in the Swimming Pool, losing out on a final place by the narrowest of margins.

Owen Burke, over in Deodora, had a frustrating afternoon, eventually being disqualified from the qualifying rounds in the R1 10m Air Rifle event, for an infringement.

Over in the National Olympic Stadium, Kyron Duke finished a respectable 5th in his weaker event of F41 Shot Put, whilst Olivia Breen went through to the Final of the T38 100m final.

In Riocentro in the Table Tennis saw a win for Rob Davies, battling through to a 3 - 2 win, whilst Sara Head started her campaign with a 3 - 0 defeat.

Today (Friday) see amongst others Jordan Howe competing in the T35 100m, whilst Rachel Morris goes in the Arms Only Sculls event in Para Rowing.
