Welsh athletes shine in Italy

Success at the IPC Italian Open

A small contingent of Welsh athletes travelled to Grosseto, Italy last weekend and had great success when competing at the 2015 Italian Open Championships in the IPC Athletics Grand Prix.

Olivia Breen (Coach - Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo)  clocked 14.03 and 28.82 in the T38 100m & 200m which saw her grab Silver and Bronze behind World Champion and fellow British team-mate Sophie Hahn.

Victories in the field came from Hollie Arnold (Anthony Hughes) in the F46 javelin (37.38m) and Kyron Duke (Hughes) in the F41 shot (11.02m) and javelin (33.42m).

Personal Bests were also rife with Sabrina Fortune (Ian Robinson) setting a PB in the F20 shot put of 11.69m adding eight centimetres to her previous best and 37.24m in the discus. 
Sam Bowen (Hughes) also threw a significant PB of 27.05m in the F44 discus to continue her rise in the event.
 
Welshman Stephen Morris (Chris Moss) was narrowly edged into second in the T20 1500m but recorded a seasons best of 4:01.57. 

Earl McRae (Jane Coia) out in Italy to gain international classification, competed in the T20 100m & 400m as well as the Long Jump, and the Academy athlete was in the Top 10 in the 100m & Long Jump.

A larger group of Welsh athletes including Aled Sion Davies, Beverley Jones, James Ledger, Bradley Wigley, Holly Arnold and Kyron Duke will be heading to Berlin this weekend for the IPC German Open.
