Rising star Matthew Glyn has his eyes firmly on the wickets as Abergavenny Cricket Club prepare for the new season.

Fourteen year old, Matthew has been playing cricket for six years in 2008, so it doesn’t surprise us that he has been awarded with the prestigious Lady Taverners Award plus a £250 prize.

Since becoming an established member of Abergavenny Cricket Club as a left handed bowler, Matthew trains on a weekly basis to maintain and improve on his precision bowling. Matthew who is inspired by his Glamorgan cricketing hero’s Mike Powell and Mark Wallace was awarded The Lady Taverners prize after playing at Lord’s Cricket Ground against English side Edgbaston.

On official receipt of the award on Thursday 17th January at Crickhowell School in Abergavenny, Matthew decided to donate his £250 prize to his honourable Abergavenny Cricket Club to help towards funding a coach for the squad.

The Lady Taverners is a vital fundraising arm of the Lord Taverners who raises money to give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance. Director of The Lady Taverners, Margaret Price said, "We are delighted to award The Lady Taverners award to deserving recipient Matthew Glyn.  Matthew is a credit to his Cricket Club which is reinforced with his decision to reinvest the award money back into Abergavenny Cricket Club."
