Athlete of the Year Award

This award recognises the outstanding achievement of an Athlete of the Year during 2021/22. This category is restricted to athletes who have competed at a Paralympic, World, Deaflympic, Special Olympic, INAS, European or Commonwealth Games during 2021 or a season ending in March 2022.

You can submit your nomination in a number of ways:

What we’re looking for:

  • Evidence of achievements between 1st January 2021 – 31st March 2022

  • Medal success at International level

  • Commitment to their sport outside of their medal success

  • Evidence from their Welsh/UK National Governing Body of their performance within their sport/s.

 

Process for selection from total nominees: 

  • Internal Panel will shortlist to six nominees
  • Six nominees will be referred for consideration to an independent Awards Panel, who will select a category winner and two other finalists
  • Should your application be shortlisted, the Nominator may be required to provide further detail to the nomination at the award panel which will take place on 25th April 2022.
  • The Winner will be announced at the DSW Virtual Awards on Friday 24th June 2022

Video Submission Guidance

If you would prefer to submit your nomination in a video format, for example so that you can use British Sign Language, please make sure to include the same information we require in the written form. You can use the following as a checklist to help you:

Submitting your video:

Once you are happy with your video, you can get it to us in a number of ways:

  • Send us the video via WhatsApp: +44 7458 031 645. The video will be received by Claire Venn, Disability Sport Wales Business Manager.
     
  • Upload it to a secure Cloud Storage service (e.g. Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox etc.) and share the file with awardsnominations@disabilitysportwales.com 
     
  • Use a large file delivery service (e.g. WeTransfer) to send the video privately to awardsnominations@disabilitysportwales.com 


We require names, email addresses, phone numbers etc. to be included in your submission as we may need to contact you as nominator, or the nominee as part of the assessment of the Award. For this reason, your video submission will contain information that should not be publicly shared. We ask that you do not upload your nomination to public video sharing or social media websites and services like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok etc.
