Background:

The Federation of Disability Sport Wales (or Disability Sport Wales (DSW)) are the lead organisation in Wales for disability sport and sport for disabled people. We are a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We share the vision for sport in Wales (an active nation where everyone can have lifelong enjoyment of sport) and our mission is to:

influence, include, inspire, insport

We do this through the provision of specific programmes (insport programmes, insport Series Events, Performance Development Camps) and services (Education and Training for those involved with physical activity (including sport)) which is intended to support a pathway of choice from initial engagement to performance sport at the highest level.

We are a small team of highly committed, passionate individuals whose shared purpose is to advocate for an inclusive approach within the sector.

DSW Value Statements

You will always be able to expect DSW (as an organisation and individuals within the team) to:

  • Champion Everyone - We believe in meaningful opportunity, broad diversity and great achievement. People drive all that we do.
  • Proudly Welsh - We embody and celebrate what it is to be Welsh.
  • Value Growth - We are committed to development and inclusive change and will always support that.
  • Highlight Possibility - We connect opportunities and prioritise partnerships, so people get what they need.

The Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated, exceptionally organised and proactive individual to gain part-time employment in media and communications within inclusive sport and physical activity.  Whilst it is not essential that the successful postholder has previous experience of a communications-type role, we would expect that this would be an area of work that the successful individual would want to take forward as their career.

You will join the Disability Sport Wales team and take a key role in the organisation's day-to-day communications delivery, taking operational ownership of our digital content and helping ensure that communications are timely, consistent, engaging, accessible and inclusive.

DSW works in partnership with LloydBell Productions (LBP), who lead on strategic communications, PR and media. You will connect with colleagues in LBP to ensure there is a seamless link between everything DSW does and how it is communicated, via the DSW Communications Operational Group (COG).

A key part of this role will be to act as the operational lead for the COG, bringing together colleagues, coordinating communications activity and ensuring that planned content moves from initial idea through to development, approval and publication. You will help maintain a clear overview of what is being communicated, when it is being communicated and how it supports DSW's wider priorities.

There is significant opportunity to work in partnership with colleagues in DSW to create current, innovative, accessible and audience-focused communications, and to gain mentoring from the DSW team and through your work with LBP.

DSW has a wide range of programmes, products and messages to share with disabled and non-disabled people in Wales. We are keen to ensure that our message reaches every disabled person in Wales and that we become well connected to organisations that liaise with disabled people but may not currently be aware of DSW.

We are looking for someone who can combine creativity with strong organisational skills: someone who can identify stories and opportunities, coordinate contributions from colleagues, manage competing deadlines and take responsibility for maintaining a high standard of communications across our digital channels.
