Again, this year’s event took place in the Delme Thomas Centre (The Barn) at Parc Y Scarlets.
Nearly one hundred pupils from 13 county schools entered . Primary Schools were Bro Banw, Dewi Sant, Hendy, Nantgaredig, Pwll and Stebonheath. Secondary Schools were Coedcae, Emlyn, Glan Y Mor, Gwendraeth, Queen Elizabeth High, Tregib and Heol Goffa.
This was the fourth year the competition has been running in Carmarthenshire.
Lisa Pudner the Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Carmarthenshire said " I was delighted to see an equally large turnout this year There were two groups of primary school pupils and three groups of secondary school pupils, rotating between chest press, indoor javelin and shot, target throw, slalom for wheelchair users and hurdles. After lunch the barn was set up for races. There were a two length race and a one length and a fun race at the end. This was very tiring for the wheelchair users due to the Astroturf.
Evaluation forms and information about training times for local clubs were given out to all pupils enquiring whether they would like to join an athletics club in their area. From the evaluation forms received back so far there is a strong interest to join a local athletics club in the area as well as possible changes for next year’s competition.
Each activity station was managed by sport science students from Coleg Sir Gar, Llanelli Campus who said they really enjoyed helping out and were looking forward to helping with further Disability Sport Wales events.
