The National Sport Snapshot Survey 2025 provided each respondent with the opportunity to be entered into a prize draw to win £500 worth of equipment and £250 worth of UK Disability Inclusion Training. 

The winners chosen at random were Mencap Môn! A huge congratulations to Mencap Môn and below is detail about how Mencap Môn have benefitted. 

Mencap Môn was established 60 years ago by a group of parents determined to improve the lives of people with Learning Disabilities on the Island. In 2015 the Mencap Môn Hub was established and later benefited with a full refurb in 2022 as they launched Ffiws with 3D Printing, Design and Technology as well as supporting pathways to voluntary work and employment for their 98 disabled members.


Mencap Môn Programmes

Their programmes have a full focus on health and wellbeing with a vast programme of activities, comprising of:

  • Football
  • Drama
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Pool
  • Croquet
  • Ballroom Dancing
  • and wider well-being activities.

Impact on Participants - Serving the Wider Community: 

  • The vast programmes have provided new experiences and opportunities for social interaction, making new friends locally and regionally
  • Providing safe and inclusive environments, developing employment skills and achieving new goals
  • Dancing and a wide range of sports have greatly improved balance, posture and mobility through exercise and movement
  • Reduction in anxiety and increased confidence for their members
  • Crocket, Ffiws and Sewing are also open to non-disabled people, especially people in isolation, who have been welcomed at the hub, providing a valuable outlet in the area

Marcus Politis, DSWs Regional Partnership Senior Officer for North Wales added “The outstanding work of Mencap Môn has led to Dot Gallagher winning DSWs Lifetime Achievement Award and this year Mencap Môn were shortlisted for the prestigious Social Care Wales Awards in Cardiff on 2nd July 2026. I would like to wish them the very best and a say a huge thanks for their undying commitment for people with learning disabilities in Ynys Môn and North Wales”.
