Can you think strategically, offering high challenge and support to an executive team that is committed to transforming our sporting landscape in Wales?

If the answer to the above questions is yes then this might be the opening in sport you are looking for.

The Federation of Disability Sport Wales is seeking to appoint a forward thinking independent Chair and Directors to form its new diverse and balanced national board to help deliver its strategy through to 2019 and beyond.

The Federation of Disability Sport Wales is a company limited by guarantee, with charitable status. It acts as the lead strategic body for the development of disability sport and physical activity in Wales. The Board currently consists of the President and three elected representatives from the National Member Associations – Welsh Sports Association for People with Learning Disabilities, Welsh Paraplegic and Tetraplegic Sports Association and Welsh Deaf Sport.

The successful candidates will be appointed for a term of either four or six years from appointment and will be expected to act primarily for the benefit of company and those it represents (i.e. be subject to all commensurate fiduciary responsibilities and duties).

This is a voluntary Board with reasonable reimbursement in line with our expenses policy.

Directors can reasonably expect to attend a minimum of 5 meetings per year. Meetings tend to be held at the Sport Wales National Centre, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, although can move to other accessible locations throughout Wales (Video link facilities are available across Wales).

Background:

Our vision is to:

Transform Lives through the Power of Sport

Our community ambition is to create an inclusive Wales where every disabled person is hooked on sport for life. Over the past decade we have seen significant growth across community sport, with the number of clubs providing inclusive sport growing to over 300. Over the same period membership (by disabled people) of clubs has increased from 3,000 to over 16,000. Our targets for membership are now being extended beyond 20,000 by 2019. To achieve this goal we will need the support and collaboration of partners across the sports sector and beyond.

To support this ambition we have created our national inclusion project – insport. The project is already transforming our sector by working with all 22 local authorities in Wales (insport Development) as well as many national governing bodies of sport (insport NGB) and many more community clubs (insport Club).

Within performance sport, we strive to be a successful nation of champions where Welsh athletes excel on the international field of play within Paralympic, Deaflympic and INAS (intellectual impairment) competitions. Our performance ambition is underpinned by a talent programme which identifies and develops athletes of the future.

Applying to be an Independent Chair or Directors:

Disability Sport Wales is now seeking to appoint an independent Chair and Directors who can make a real difference to our work, taking responsibility for all areas identified below, and leading on one or more of the following areas:

Strategy: constructively challenging and contributing to the further development and successful implementation of our 2015-19 strategy and beyond.

Performance: scrutinising and monitoring the performance of the executive team in meeting agreed strategic goals and priorities

Risk:  Satisfying themselves that financial information is accurate and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible.

People: Ensuring that systems are in place to recruit, challenge and support Disability Sport Wales people, placing equality at the heart of our thinking and building on our values and behaviors that are central to how we act moving forward.

External Relations: Maintaining effective relationships with existing stakeholders as well as creating new and innovative partnerships that can contribute and provide added value toward achieving the vision of Disability Sport Wales
