Happy LGBT+ Pride Month

Over the weekend (November 23rd) Boccia Wales welcomed a squad of players from Ireland to compete at the Welsh Boccia Open event that was held at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff.

18 players from the two nations, covering the Paralympic classifications of BC1 to BC4, went head to head in a mixed class competition to find out who was the overall winner of the event. Over the day of intense battle the final was a showdown of the BC3s with James Bailey (Cardiff) and Karl Parrish (Caldicot) battling it out. Bailey came out on top, whilst Kathryn Jones (Caerphilly) took 3rd place beating Gareth Stafford (Wrexham).

Stephen Friel of Boccia Ireland said: ‘Whilst our athletes did not perform as well as we'd hoped, they all really enjoyed the event and the hospitality they were afforded’.

Event organiser Julie Whittingham commented: ‘The event was an absolute success: The Team Ireland Manager could not praise the accommodation, facilities and competition organisation enough. Given that they had had a horrendous journey, from Ireland, their positive approach and demeanour was exemplary.’
