Disability sport in the Vale of Glamorgan have received a generous financial boost after a local cricket club’s charity auction evening raised £1160.

The auction formed part of the Arriva Cricket Team’s presentation evening at the Barry West End Labour Club, with attendees keen to bid for a range of sporting memorabilia including a signed Welsh football kit and a signed Great Britain shirt from the Welsh Paralympic javelin world record holder Nathan Stephens.

All money raised was kindly donated to Disability Sport Wales after the event’s organisers Terrie Kirk and Christopher Lane decided they wanted to do something to help greater numbers of local people take part in sport.

Disability Sport Wales’ development officer for the Vale of Glamorgan Simon Jones, who is also a member of the Vale Council’s sports and play development team, said: "I’m extremely grateful to Terri and Chris for choosing Disability Sports Wales as the beneficiary for their auction evening. The money that has been raised will help the community programme enormously as it will be used to help clubs buy new equipment and reward volunteers who give up their spare time to run local disability sport clubs."

Claire Venn, Disability Sport Wales’ support services manager, added: "As an organisation, we really appreciate the efforts that everyone at the Arriva Cricket Team went to in making the night such a huge success. I would also like to thank all those who contributed with such generous donations."
