The countdown is over as the  Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony takes place at Celtic Park, Glasgow tonight ( 23rd July 2014) from 8.00pm.

 

Eighteen para-athletes are included in the Team Wales squad of 232 competing across four sports including aquatics, athletics, cycling and lawn bowls.

 

Paralympic gold and bronze medal winner Aled Sion Davies heads the list and has been given the honour of captaining Team Wales in his first Commonwealth Games.  The 23 year-old F42 discus thrower said "When I saw that I was in the team it was great I thought I can focus on my main goal of producing my best ever performance in Glasgow but to be captain of your country is something else. I am such a patriotic Welshman as it is and this is something I will cherish forever."

 

Other members of the athletics team include Sky Sports Scholar Olivia Breen, six times Paralympic games runner Tracey Hinton alongside guide runner Steffan Hughes, Beverley Jones and Rhys Jones.

 

First time Commonwealth Games cyclists are Matt Ellis paired with Ieuan williams and  Rhiannon Henry who pairs with Rachel James.

 

The Lawn Bowls team consists of the oldest Team Wales squad member Rosa Crean at 72. Alongside Rosa is Chris Gibson, John Glover, Gilbert Miles, Dave Powell, Ronald Whitehead and Kevin Woolmoore. 

 

Swansea born swimmer Jack Thomas will be hoping to achieve success in the pool.
