DANIEL LUCKER SETS THE PACE WITH 4 GOLD MEDALS

Daniel Lucker (14) who lives in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire was in fine form as he recently competed in the DSE National Junior Track and Field Athletics Championships inBlackpool. Daniel, a budding wheelchair athlete and national talent, won four gold medals in the 100m, 200m 400m, and 800m in the under 15’s age group, T54 class. He also managed to set 2 national records for 200m in 34.0 seconds and 400m in 1:08.8.

Daniel is advised and has been working closely with Chris Hallam in recent months. Chris is no stranger to the world of athletics either. He is a seasoned athlete, and past paralympian himself, and still holds three UK National Records for the 100m, 200m, and 400m, in the T53 Class. "It seems Chris is now as enthusiastic as ever, in his new role: advising some of the young talent coming through the ranks of Disability Sport in Wales. His knowledge and experience could be invaluable to these young athletes as they move towards the international sporting arena", said Claire Lampan – Disability Sport Wales Development Officer – Monmouthshire.

Daniels mum, Karen Lucker, said, "I am so pleased for Daniel, he has really been working hard these last few months with Chris and the group at the FDSW Athletics Academy at NIAC, Cardiff. All the hard work and commitment is definitely paying off"

Daniel’s next planned race is in the BUPA Great Welsh Run on Sunday 29th July 2007 inCardiff. He is not only planning to race, but is also hoping to raise money for ‘Get Kids Going’, an organisation that has previously helped fund his racing chairs.
