This exciting collaboration marks a significant milestone in our purpose to ensure disabled people are as likely to have a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity including sport as non-disabled people.. With a generous commitment of £10,000 per year for the next three years, this partnership will significantly enhance our ability to promote and develop inclusive sports opportunities across Wales

Impact on Communities

The partnership will focus on increasing awareness of physical activity opportunities for disabled people living in communities served by Wales & West Housing and working with the Wales and West housing team to direct residents to the best local opportunities.

Nia Jones, Projects Manager for Disability Sport Wales said “this collaboration between DSW and Wales & West Housing Association is really exciting, it gives both organisations the opportunity to work together to ensure that residents will have more connected information about sports and activity local to them which can lead to improved health outcomes, greater social inclusion, and enhanced community spirit. Together we can create a more inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Building Stronger Communities

This partnership is not just about sports; it's about building stronger, more inclusive communities. By encouraging participation in physical activities, we aim to improve the overall well-being of individuals and foster a sense of belonging and community spirit. Sports can be a powerful tool for social change, helping to break down barriers and promote understanding and acceptance.

Disability Sport Wales CEO, Fiona Reid said “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected as one of the charity partners to Wales and West Housing Group this year.  This partnership reflects shared values and goals and an exciting opportunity to collaborate with a significant partner outside of sport to raise awareness of choice for physical activity, sport and champion healthy, inclusive communities across Wales”.

Alex Ashton, Chair of the Board at Wales & West Housing Group, said: “We are delighted to support Disability Sports Wales for the next three years.”

“Over the years Wales & West Housing Group has supported many charities that deal with issues that affect our residents and communities. This year we were keen to support charities which champion the rights of disabled people in Wales. We felt that the work Disability Sports Wales does to promote inclusivity is so important. We hope that our contribution will allow them to make a difference and further their work to give every disabled person a real choice as to where, when and how often they play sport.”

Looking Ahead

Over the next three years, we will work collaboratively to ensure that our collective resources create tangible differences to the lives of disabled people and their networks. We look forward to sharing success stories and updates on our progress, and our thanks again go to the Wales and West Housing Association team for their involvement and commitment to making a difference.
