Kyron Duke became the first Welsh athlete to win a silver medal at the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea.
He threw 36.7m in the F41 javelin final to add to the javelin silver medal he won at the World Championships in 2013.
The 21-year-old said: “I’m happy with my medal but a little disappointed not to throw further because I’ve thrown further in training. It didn’t quite come off for me."
“Mathias has been just ahead of me since day one but I’m pleased with a silver medal. He’s just one step ahead of me but I will catch him up one day. I’m just going to keep training hard.”
There was more medal success in the sprints as Olivia Breen claimed a bronze in the T38 100m.
Breen, 18, clocked 13.96s in a tight final and has another chance of a medal in the F35/F38 4x100m relay on Saturday.
She said: “I’m so happy, I just wanted to get out there and do it. I felt the Ukrainian on my shoulder and I aimed to beat her so I just went for it. I did it.
“I’m happy because this is the most important event to me. I’ve just started competing in the long jump but this is my main event.”
Nathan Stephens narrowly missed out on a medal in the men’s F57 Javelin final, finishing 4th after an appeal against a foul throw was dismissed.
Stephens, 26, believes his foul throw was long enough to get him onto the podium but it was judged to be illegal by the track judges.
He said: “They said my right side came up but as long as the centre of your spine is in contact with the seat then you're fine - and mine always is.
“I'm just disappointed that seated throws has taken a backward step rather than pushing forward like every other Paralympic sport.
“Every setback gives me more options to try new things and experiment. We've just got to go back to the drawing board to try and find the right way to utilise my body."
