New initiative to encourage participation

An athletics initiative has been launched in Ceredigion to encourage more children with disabilities to take part in sport.

In conjunction with the Federation of Disability Sport Wales, Ceredigion’s County Council’s Disability Sport Development Officer has introduced athletics sessions where children can take part in fun sessions with trained volunteers from Welsh Athletics.

Taking place at Plascrug Leisure Centre, the sessions are open to all children with disabilities aged between 7-14 years old.

Gemma Cutter, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Ceredigion County Council, said: "We are delighted to introduce these sessions which aim to be an introduction to disability sport".

"We already have a number of established disability sports clubs in Ceredigion, and we hope these new taster sessions will provide a natural stepping stone towards these."

"This initiative wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for valuable volunteers who dedicate they’re time and commitment to make a difference in the community, a big thank you to you".

The sessions take place at Plascrug Leisure Centre every Thursday night between 4.30-5.30pm contact Gemma for further information.
