Wales disabled cricketers lost in the final of the ECB National Disability County Championship on Sunday at Walmley Cricket Club in Birmingham.  They were beaten by Lancashire for the fourth time in four final appearances against the Red Rose County.

On an overcast morning Wales won the toss and elected to bat first and openers Paul Bennett and Llewelyn Hughes made a steady start and when Bennett was out with the score on 75 Wales looked as if they would post a formidable total.  However the remaining 9 batsmen couldn’t support Hughes who top scored with  50 and the Welsh were all out for 159.

However, the Welsh were confident that they could defend a total of 159 and they seemed well in control as Lancashire slumped to 75 for 5.  But a superb individual effort by Rob Greenwood always kept Lancashire in the hunt.  Wales tried desperately to capture his wicket and he was dropped no less than three times as the Welsh contrived against themselves.  In the end Lancashire reached their target with 3 wickets remaining withGreenwood finishing on 79 not out.  Pick of the Welsh Bowlers was Steve Dancer fromCardiff who finished with 4 for 21 off 8 overs which included 4 maidens.
