Race JFC were awarded the ‘WFT Club of the Year – Sponsored by McDonald’s’ within the Gwent County Football Association for 2011. There to collect the award on behalf of the club was Kevin Williams (Secretary of the junior section).

Gavin Thomas, Club Development Officer for Gwent, commented: "The club have opened their doors to any interested player who wishes to join. They have a number of mainstream teams and this year established a disability section within the club with help from Torfaen Disability Sports Officer Holly Hinchey."

The Pan disability team "Race Rovers" currently have over 25 boys aged 8-25 years playing and training for the team, competing in the FAW trust central venue leagues. If it wasn’t for the hard work of the coaches, parents and committee, while supported by the disability sport Wales development officer the team would never have developed this extent, fielding two teams in two age groups in such a short space of time.

McDonald’s Director of Welsh Football, Ian Rush, who launched the search for this year’s award winners in February, said: "The Welsh Community Football Awards were established as a way of rewarding the extraordinary number of volunteers that lend their time and support to grassroots football, simply for their love of the game. Clubs like Race JFC are the lifeblood of grassroots football, proving that a sense of community spirit is alive and well. I hope the example they set inspires more people to get involved in our national game."
