Welsh Judo Awarded Bronze Insport Standard

Welsh Judo Association recognised for its commitment to inclusion

Welsh Judo Association have recently been awarded the insport Bronze standard for demonstrating the organisations commitment to inclusion and increasing sporting opportunities for disabled people.

In order to achieve the standard they have, supported through the process by an insport case officer, had to present and demonstrate to the insport panel how they have and will embed the principles of inclusive delivery through their governing body and how they will monitor and evaluate processes to inform the changes that they will be making.

Darren Warner (CEO, Welsh Judo Association)

“We are delighted to have recently achieved the insport NGB Bronze standard. As an organisation, it has given us clarity, direction and support on how to be a more inclusive national governing body. We really looking forward to continuing this journey.

We’re already seeing a real difference in the engagement of people with disabilities. Last year we launched our Visually Impaired Olympic Pathway as part of our Talent Cymru Programme, leading to a gold and silver medal at the Commonwealth Championships in September. Fantastic to see such an instant impact in a judo community that is fast expanding!”

Tom Rogers (Senior Project Officer (insport), DSW)

“Disability Sport Wales wish to congratulate Welsh Judo Association on their achievement of the insport NGB Bronze standard.  It is a real testament to the calibre of work they are currently doing, and have committed to do in the future, and will ensure the ongoing development of inclusive planning and provision of opportunity to disabled communities through Judo”

“Throughout the process Welsh Judo have shown a genuine approach to the continued growth of inclusive provision enabling everyone to access the wider benefits of inclusive judo communities.”

We are looking forward to continuing to work alongside Welsh Judo as they continue to develop and grow this provision alongside their 2022 Strategic Plan”
