WELSH VOLUNTEER REWARDED AT SPORTING CHANCE AWARDS
FRANCES SMITH WINS LORD TAVERNERS AWARD

Frances Smith from Caernarfon, North Wales, has won the Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the Lord’s Taverners Sporting Chance Awards held at Guidhall. This was the second occasion the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity has hosted the awards, which celebrate the achievements of young disadvantaged and disabled people who have refused to be defined by their circumstances and who have excelled at theirchosen sports.
The awards also recognise the invaluable contributions of some of the people behind the scenes, the organisers and coaches, parents, carers and supporters.
Smith first engaged with disability sport four years ago due to finding it more and more difficult to access mainstream sport. She became a volunteer coach at the age of 17 years and supports a number of young people, helping them engage in sporting activities such as wheelchair tennis.
She is well respected and seen as a very positive role model within the school and clubs she operates.
Disability Sport Wales is able to influence, include and inspire in sport with the support of our fantastic partners.

The Cynnig Cymraeg (Welsh Offer) is the official recognition of the Welsh Language Commissioner and is given to organisations that have supported the Commissioner’s long-term plan to ensure people can use the Welsh language in all aspects of their lives, in all parts of Wales. The Light colour mode is designed using Disability Sport Wales brand colours, to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidance Level AA. This should provide good contrast for most users.
The Dark colour mode is intended for people who dislike bright screens, or wish to use their display in a more energy-efficient way. This option does not meet Web Content Accessibility Guidance Level AA, so may not be suitable for users with visual impairments.
The Calm colour mode uses colours which may be more suitable for users who are sensitive to bright colours, or prefer lower contrast. This option does not meet Web Content Accessibility Guidance Level AA, so may not be suitable for users with visual impairments.
The High Contrast option is tailored to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidance Level AAA, and is intended to make this website as accessible as possible to users with the lowest visual acuity. Ideal use of this setting would be combined with Medium Text or Large Text text sizes.
