Wales Wheelchair Basketball Association is delighted to announce the appointment of three regional representatives to its newly formed Board. James Coyle-King, Lee Coulson and Chris Wilson are joining existing Board members Caroline Matthews (Secretary), Helen Pearce (Treasurer) and Lou Englefield (Chair).
The role of Regional Representative will assist the association in its mission to consolidate the recent success of the sport in Wales. Lou Englefield, Chair of the Association explains:
“We have appointed representatives who are passionate about wheelchair basketball in Wales and want to see the sport grow throughout the nation. We now have a team that can work positively to shape the future of the association, capitalising on the great work already happening in the Welsh regions”
Wheelchair basketball has grown exponentially in recent years in Wales, with more players engaged in the sport and success at a national level. North Wales Knights under 15s team claimed gold at the 2017 Lords Taverners Junior League Finals in April, whilst the Wales under 15s team made history last month when they took silver at the National Junior Championships in Worcester.
James Coyle-King and Lee Coulson, the new representatives of the South and Mid Wales regions respectively, bring significant experience of club and player development through their work with Swansea Storm and West Coast Warriors. Both are represented on the Wales national coaching team, serving as Head Coach and Manager for the successful U15s squad. Chris Wilson, newly appointed representative for the North Wales region is a parent of a junior player, who has become involved in the sport since his son began playing for Conwy Thunder in 2014. Chris brings extensive experience of strategic working, project management and stakeholder engagement from his professional role.
