CS8 - Inclusive Leadership

Presented by Ingrid Griffiths, Andrew Howard and Fiona Reid

This session will take place in the Langstone Room from 3:15pm - 4pm

An organisation can have the greatest policies but without inclusive leadership people are less likely to stay for the longer-term.

Research indicates that 80% of millennials identify inclusion as being important when they choose an employer, and 71% said they would prefer to work for an organisation with strong inclusive behaviours. This interactive workshop is intended to stimulate your curiosity about your leadership and explore what inclusive leadership is and how it can make a difference to you and your teams.

Ingrid Griffiths

Head of Marketing PR and Journalism in Leeds Beckett Business School

Ingrid has a diverse range of experience within a long-established career in sport and business management, sport education and sport law. Ingrid is committed to fairness in sport, and having completed a PhD and three further post-graduate degrees in law she is in the final stages of her barrister training with the Inns of Court College of Advocacy in London.

Ingrid has served as a board and committee member for DSW for 2 years, and brings with her a knowledge of law, governance the commercial aspects of sport. She is also chair of the Carnegie School of Sport’s Diversity, Inclusion and Equality Steering Group. Ingrid’s student-focussed approach to her roles ensure that she keep equity and inclusion at the heart of her practice.

Andrew Howard

Chief Executive Officer, Welsh Sports Association

Andrew is the CEO of the Welsh Sports Association (WSA); a membership organisation which represents an independent voice for the sport sector in Wales. Andrew has significant experience within business leadership and sports management. He has worked with high profile National and International Sports Organisations and on his appointment to Head of Competitions at the Football Association of Wales in 2009, was the youngest Department Head at the FAW.

Andrews approach to leadership has strong foundations in inclusion. The work that he leads in the WSA is about bringing partners together and ensuring perspectives are heard. He has volunteered within one of the smallest governing bodies in Wales (Welsh Pétanque) and brings enthusiasm and knowledge to all he does.

Fiona Reid

Chief Executive Officer, Disability Sport Wales

Fiona has been CEO for Disability Sport Wales (DSW) since July 2017, prior to that she worked for the organisation as Innovation Manager. This work involved leading the development of Disability Inclusion Training in Wales and bringing UK partners together to create a differentiated but common offer; as well as establishing the foundations of the insport project, which is a series of programmes with accompanying toolkits to support inclusive cultural change in sport. Fiona came to disability sport from higher education where her teaching and research areas were within Sport Sociology; specifically gender negotiation within risk sports, and disability sport.

Fiona is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion and over the years has travelled with teams to major events, coached para badminton, developed coaching resources, been involved with club management, and sits on three boards linked to sport. Inclusive leadership and culture are fundamental in her approach to any role.
