General Dynamics and Arriva Trains Wales are proud to become the official partners of Disability Sport Wales (DSW), the national organisation for the development of sport and physical activities for disabled people.

The partnerships facilitated by Engagesport LLP are an exciting opportunity for General Dynamics and Arriva Trains Wales to support DSW’s Academy and Community programmes by making an active contribution to the growing success of the organisation and to the well-being of disabled people and athletes across Wales.

The academy and community programmes of DSW have already made a significant impact with over 1 million sports opportunities being delivered annually and with Welsh athletes continually punching above their weight on the world stage. These new partnerships will enable Disability Sport Wales to expand its programmes by supporting its vision to transform lives through the creation of a more inclusive sporting landscape, where every disabled person is hooked on sport and where Wales continues to be a nation of champions.

General Dynamics begin a two-year partnership as the official National Academy partner of DSW where they will develop a close relationship with the athletes as they follow them on their journeys through major games and championships.  Their support will provide additional resource to ensure that the next generation of Welsh athletes receive the services they need to achieve their full potential.

Arriva Trains Wales become the official Community partner providing additional support that will be used to further develop grassroots opportunities across Wales, particularly focussing on new marketing campaigns, events and inclusion training.

Both partners will benefit from the opportunity to access Disability Sport Wales training resources as well as headlining the annual awards evening later this year.

Jon Morgan, Executive Director of Disability Sport Wales, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome General Dynamics and Arriva Trains Wales as our official National Academy and Community Partners. Disability Sport Wales has grown significantly over the last decade, and we believe that our new Partners will assist us to develop even further by helping us maximise our potential and realise some of the great opportunities ahead.

“With General Dynamics’ and Arriva Trains Wales support, we can look to expand our reach and continue to make sport more accessible, appealing and inclusive to all as well as benefitting the next generation of Welsh champions.”

Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport & Tourism, Ken Skates said:

“We are committed to creating sport opportunities for people of all abilities, irrespective of social background and situation, with the aim of getting our communities more physically active and healthier. I am delighted that the partnership between Disability Sport Wales, General Dynamics and Arriva Trains Wales will support DSW to extend its excellent work and provide more opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport and enjoy the many benefits this brings.”

Kevin Connell, Vice President at General Dynamics UK, added:

“We are delighted to join with Disability Sport Wales and become their official National Academy Partner. General Dynamics have always had strong values and have consistently been pro-active in our approach to support and contribute regularly to benevolent causes concerned with the well-being of the community in which we operate. With this partnership, we are determined to support the organisation’s goal of getting more disabled people engaged in sport and assist them to become the nation’s future champions. Here at General Dynamics, we strongly believe that our work with Disability Sport Wales will be both inspirational and motivational to all and it will enhance the integrity not only within the organisation, but also within the community.”

Rob Philips, Finance Director at Arriva Trains Wales says:

"We are really pleased to have the opportunity to develop a community partnership with Disability Sports Wales and to support the exciting programme and events that they have planned for communities both big and small across the whole of Wales. We know that sport can be a game changer for many people and we are proud to be playing a small part in ensuring that grass root activities are available and accessible to all.”
