Less Than 24 Hours Until London 2017 Starts!!

On Friday 14th July, the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships kick off in The Olympic Park in London. The World Para Athletics Championships London 2017 and the IAAF World Championships London 2017 are together the biggest sporting event in the world in 2017. This year is the first time both Championships have been held in the same city with over 3,000 athletes from over 200 nations competing over 20 days of action. 

The home fans will have a world-class team to cheer on over 10 days of athletics, with 21 GB Paralympic medallists from 2016 selected to pull on their country's jersey.

9 of our Welsh athletes will be taking to the London stage with high hopes of bringing home the medals. Paralympic Gold medallist Hollie Arnold will be leading the GB Team as captain alongside Englishman Dan Greaves.

The Welsh athletes that will be joining Hollie are: Rhys Jones, Jordan Howe, Kyron Duke, Sabrina Fortune (Paralympic Bronze Medallist), Stephen Morris, Aled Davies (Paralympic Gold Medallist), Laura Sugar and Olivia Breen. All 9 athletes competed in Rio 2016 and therefore have experience in competing in a world-class event, and will be heading to London with the hope of achieving further success this month.

London 2017 will be the eighth edition of the World Para Athletics Championships, and the first since IPC Athletics was rebranded to World Para Athletics. After announcing record-breaking sales of 230,000 tickets for the World Para Athletics Championships, organisers are urging the public to come and cheer on the best Para athletes in the world through #FillTheStadium to ensure as many supporters as possible pack the London Stadium between 14-23 July.
