Michael Beynon, 25, become first person with Down’s syndrome from Wales to Run the Virtual London Marathon on the 4th October, for the 2020 Virgin Marathon, partnership Charity, MENCAP.
Michael Beynon from the Ammanford and who has a learning disability, is taking on the 2020 Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon for the first time for the UK’s leading learning disability charity Mencap to help change attitudes towards learning disability
Despite his family being warned by doctors 10 years ago that Michael was likely to need a wheelchair for most of his adult life, Michael, 25, who has Downs’ syndrome, has visual impairment and the muscle condition, Hypertonia, and Cerebral Palsy will be running the 26.2 mile challenge.
“It’s been my dream for six years to run the London Marathon,” explains Michael. “By running, I will achieve my dreams and by donating to Mencap, you can help other people with a learning disability achieve theirs.”
Unfortunately he won’t be able to running the streets of London this year, due to COVID 19, he will be completing the marathon on his two favourite training paths with Team Mencap runners and Special Olympic Carmarthenshire Athletics club runners.
On Sunday 4th October 2020:
• Sunday Morning: on the cycle path from Ammanford to Brynamman Between 7.30am and 11.30am.
• Sunday afternoon: at Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park, Tumble starting at 1.30pm – 5.30pm.
